Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Hi! You are welcome to the AI section. This is a place where we simplify a few awesome AI-related terms so that they are understandable to everyone. Without further ado, let's get going!

What’s Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

AI means basically mimicking human intelligence in machines so they can do things like thinking, learning, and problem-solving all by themselves. It’s like programming a computer to "think" like a human. Not bad, huh?

Machine Learning (ML)

Machine Learning (ML) is an area of AI where the computer machines become capable of learning by themselves from their past experiences, without direct human instructions. In fact, to be more precise, they improve their performance by observing patterns in data.

Neural Networks

Neural Networks are a model of the human brain that have been implemented in computers. They consist of several "neurons" mimicking those in the human brain, to infer and depict patterns from the data given in a language understandable to the computer. They are excellent at things like finding faces in pictures or recognizing the voice of the speaker.

Deep Learning

Deep Learning is basically the next step of Machine Learning. It uses very complicated "neural networks" to perform extremely complex tasks, for example, a vehicle that can operate itself or a system that can understand a conversation between two humans. Basically, this is the technology that allows voice command-based appliances to work.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)

AGI is the concept of an AI that has the same (or even more) capabilities as a human. Current AI is extremely good at specific tasks only (like playing chess), but AGI would be far beyond as it would be capable of human-like thinking, reasoning, and decision-making. We haven’t achieved it yet, but it’s the point where scientists want to get!

Robotics

Robotics deals with the design and construction of robots capable of performing tasks autonomously or with minimal human intervention. Robots are going from household vacuum cleaners to traveling the far reaches of outer space, little by little, conquering every area.

Natural Language Processing (NLP)

NLP is the component of AI that enables machines to grasp human language and also communicate with us in that language. If you have ever used Siri or Alexa, then you know what NLP is capable of!

Expert Systems

Expert Systems are one way AI can use human skills by simulating the behavior of an expert in a certain field. By comprising numerous rules and a wealth of information, Expert Systems aid in problem-solving. Think of a virtual doctor diagnosing diseases—that's an expert system.

Ethics in AI

AI Ethics deals with the issues arising from AI usage and solving the problems related to it. The main concerns include privacy, bias, and making sure the AI doesn't cause a job crisis or harm society. It is a vast subject, and many people are debating the ways of AI implementation ethically.
